Dog Lover Bragging Rights by Region πŸ—ΊοΈ

If your city (or one closeby) made the list, here’s some extra tail-wagging adventures you can take:

AKC Museum of the Dog and Balto Statue in New York, NY πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί

The AKC Museum of the Dog in Manhattan is the only museum of its kind in the world, and the beloved Balto statue in Central Park honors the legendary sled dog who helped save Nome, Alaska, during a 1925 diphtheria outbreak.

Bobbie the Wonder Dog statue in Silverton, OR πŸ•

Portland dog lovers can claim a genuine piece of canine history. About an hour south in Silverton, the legend of Bobbie the Wonder Dog lives on through a life-size statue, a 70-foot mural, and a replica doghouse. Bobbie’s story β€” a Scotch Collie who walked more than 2,500 miles through plains, desert, and mountains to find his way home β€” remains one of the most extraordinary tales of animal loyalty ever recorded. Bobbie is buried with honors in Portland itself.

The Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial with Fala in Washington, D.C. 🐾

All three Virginia cities on the list (Falls Church, Vienna, and Woodbridge) sit within easy reach of Washington, D.C., and that means access to one of the most moving dog tributes in the country. At the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial on the National Mall, Fala β€” FDR’s beloved Scottish Terrier β€” stands immortalized in bronze beside his owner. He remains the only presidential pet honored with a statue at a presidential memorial.

Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, CA 🐢

Number 18 on the list, Daly City is well-positioned for a road trip to one of the most charming dog-adjacent destinations. The Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa β€” about an hour north β€” celebrates the man who gave the world Snoopy, perhaps the most famous beagle in history.

Bill Archer Bark Park in Houston, TX 🦴

About two hours away from #15 Sunset Valley in Houston, Congressman Bill Archer Bark Park gives a glimpse of what dedicated dog infrastructure looks like: 17 off-leash acres with bone-shaped swimming ponds, agility courses, and walking trails. And it’s all completely free.

Mark Your Calendar for Adoption Week ❀️

PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week runs March 23–29, with local shelters bringing adoptable dogs directly into PetSmart stores nationwide. This is the moment to show up for your city’s ranking, and more importantly, for a dog who’s waiting.
