A World of Savings at Your Fingertips

Blog | February 29th, 2012

One of the biggest technological booms in the last few years is the rise of the tablet. A few years ago, it was a product that you didn’t understand or didn’t even realize existed. Now, it’s something that many people can’t live without. These modern marvels can do many, many things to make your life simpler. However, I bet you didn’t realize that these devices could save you time and money in your everyday life! Tablets such as the Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab can be an effective desktop replacement and can save you in ways you’ve probably never thought of.

As you may have already guessed, tablets use much less electricity than their plugged in PC counterparts. Computers use between 60-250 watts of electricity while they are on, making them huge drains on electricity if left on. Tablets only use electricity when they need to be charged, which should only take a few hours depending on which brand you have. Most portable devices feature a battery life of 8-12 hours of constant use so, depending on your usage habits, you won’t have to charge it very often.

Aside from the savings on your electrical bill, let’s look at how a tablet can save you money on your computing and possibly even replace your home computer! What is the best feature of iPads or Android tablets? Apps of course! These programs are specifically designed for mobile devices and will allow you to do pretty much anything you normally do on your Apple or Windows computer. Even better, many of these apps are free! Using a tablet will save you time and allow you to get services such as banking, email and much more quickly and on the go!

Speaking of on the go, tablets can be used as great tools to help you manage your life. Apps such as Evernote and Pocket Informant can help you keep track of appointments, make notes for your daily activities and do much more to help you keep your life on track. You can find many apps such as the ones listed in the App Store for free! If they do cost money, then they’ll be cheaper than a personal organizer would cost!

If you have a child or family member who loves to play games, then you probably know another thing a tablet is good for: gaming! Apps such as Angry Birds and Words with Friends will provide hours of entertainment for you and your family for a fraction of the cost of a standard game for dedicated consoles. Plus, many of these games are so simple that anyone can pick up and play them. That means you might be able to sneak in a couple rounds of Cut The Rope when your kids aren’t using it!

The one thing that may deter you from getting into the tablet market is the cost, which can be a little high. The standard iPad costs $500! However, there are cheaper alternatives. The Kindle Fire, for instance, retails for around $200 and does many of the same things that its more expensive counterparts do. Do some comparison-shopping before you commit to one device and read any reviews that you can find. You might discover that you don’t need an expensive device for what you need to do.

The tablet PC has been an excellent innovation that many people have used to improve their lives. It has also become a great way for you to save money in areas of your life that you hadn’t thought of before. If you are looking for an excellent way to stay organized, try a tablet!
