Taco Tuesdays on a Budget

Who doesn’t love Taco Tuesday? You get chips and salsa, lots
of cheap tacos, and discounted margaritas…if you know which places offer them. If
you’d like to save money on your family’s Taco Tuesday outings, then check out
these tips for finding great Mexican food on a budget.

Cantina Happy Hours

One of the best places to go on a Tuesday night is a
cantina, especially if they offer happy hour specials. Mexican food restaurants
are highly competitive on Tuesdays and offer great deals on everything from
chile rellenos and taco plates, to enchiladas and tostada salads. A simple Yelp
search can help you locate which restaurants have Taco Tuesday specials in your
area, and customer reviews will let you know if it’s worth your time. If you’re
over 21 years old, you can probably find some sweet deals on margaritas during
their happy hour as well!

Coupons & Daily Deals

If your local Mexican food restaurant doesn’t have happy
hours or specials, then finding a Groupon deal or online food coupon are great alternatives
to paying full price at a restaurant. Oftentimes, you’ll find coupons such as
“Buy three tacos, get one free” and the like. If you’re getting tacos to-go,
then you might be able to find a coupon for free chips and salsa as well!

Food Truck Tacos

If a sit-down restaurant isn’t in the cards, then check out
food trucks in your area. Oftentimes, the food is not only delicious and
affordable, but also more authentic than conventional Mexican food restaurants.
“Street tacos” are increasingly popular, especially on Tuesdays! You may have
to wait a while for your food, but it’ll be worth it once you try a fresh taco
with meat and veggies just off the grill. To find food trucks in your area,
Mashable has a list of apps such as Food Truck Fiesta, Eat St., and Roaming Hunger to help you
find the perfect taco truck.

Homemade Tacos

The cheapest way to make tacos at home is by forgoing meat,
since that is the most expensive component of your entrée. If replacing meat
with beans and veggies doesn’t sound too savory, then buy packaged ground beef
instead of chicken, fish, or steak for the bulk of your tacos. Homemade guacamole is also cheaper than store-bought, not to mention fresher and
probably tastier too!

Del Taco Specials

If you’re desperate for tacos on a Tuesday and homemade or
restaurant-style tacos aren’t available, you could always drive to your nearest
Del Taco for their Taco Night, which runs from 3-11 p.m. on both Tuesdays and
Thursdays. They have a wide variety of specials, but on a Taco Tuesday at Del
Taco you won’t pay more than $3 for a taco plate! It’s bottom-of-the-barrel
quality tacos compared to others on this list, but perfect if you’re in a hurry
and don’t want to spend a lot of money!
