DIY: Homemade Insect Repellent from Lemongrass!

Along with the summer fun in the sun comes the risk of insect bites! These bites can be painful, itchy and (depending on where you are) can even carry disease! Instead of purchasing store-bought repellents loaded with harmful chemicals, you can make your own natural insect repellent using lemongrass. The essential oils naturally present inside the lemongrass stalk can repel insects while leaving your skin a fresh and vibrant citrus scent.

Here’s how to do it:

1. Clean the lemongrass by peeling away the outer leaves, leaving the swollen white end.

2. Cut the stalks about two inches long.

3. Squeeze the oil out of the lemongrass and put the oil into a small container.

4.  Coat your exposed skin with the oil from the lemongrass. This will give you protection from pesky insect bites for up to five hours!

Using organic repellents to fight insect bites is a great way to be bug-free as well as save money! Don’t let those pesky pests ruin your summer fun! Try making your own organic repellent today!
