How to Celebrate the First Day of Fall Even If It’s Still Hot Out

Blog | September 20th, 2022

The first day of fall is almost here, which is officially September 22. For some, fall will feel like the season has truly arrived, but for others, it may seem like summer doesn’t want to let go. When you can’t quite enjoy wearing a hoodie or sipping hot cocoa by the fire, what can you do to take part and celebrate the season? Oh, there are ways and you came to the right place to begin to count them! And remember, fall isn’t just a day, it’s a season!

Pump Up Your Weekends With Pumpkin!

Any weekend can have a touch of fall in the air with the scent of pumpkin steaming from your waffle iron! Whip up an easy batch then gather around the Saturday morning table for your first taste of fall 2022!

Ingredients

2 cups Bisquick

1 cup canned pure pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix)

3/4 cup milk

2 eggs

2 tbsp brown sugar

1 tsp pumpkin pie spice

Instructions

-Mix everything in a large bowl starting with the dry ingredients.

-Spray waffle iron with non-stick spray.

-Add 1-2 cup batter and spread with a spoon.

-Close the lid and cook until the steam slows down.

-Serve with butter, syrup, toasted nuts, whipped cream or brown sugar butter, which is simply softened butter mixed with brown sugar. Yum!

Chill Out!

Maybe there’s no real evidence of fall surfacing, yet we are still beginning to see signs of festive heart-warming drinks. While some areas of the country are smelling the scents and snuggling with a steamy hot beverage, those living with heat waves can still participate in the festivities! Instead of hot apple cider, make it cold or slushy. Turn your pumpkin spice latte into a frappe. You get the drift. And before you know it that cool air will be drifting your way to officially welcome the chilly days of autumn!

Light Your Own Fire When Nature’s Option Sets!

Set a cozy mood when the sun goes down! Even if the days are toasty, most evenings cool off just right for an after-dark fire. So go ahead and toast those marshmallows, roast the hotdogs, make the s’mores and tell ghost stories around the cozy, flicker of a fall fire!

Atmosphere is Everything

When the official kick-off to fall leaves you aching for an indoor fire, use a small Duraflame! The small size won’t overwhelm you with heat but will give you the ambiance you crave! It will last two hours or more, just long enough to get you through an autumn romance or Halloween movie!

Gather the Harvest

Squirrels do it so why can’t people? Explore nature and gather the fruits of fall’s festive labor! It’s ok if leaves aren’t changing yet, instead, search for pinecones, acorns, and other hints of fall. When the harvest is home, the sky’s the limit! First, place them in a bag and sprinkle with cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, or pumpkin spice. When the scents of the season have soaked in, decorate your tables, mantle, or fill bowls with the natural sights and smells that welcome and bring autumn to life!

Traditions Live Forever!

With fall comes football season and if you want to plant a memory, begin with peanuts! Only if there are no nut allergies present of course! Spread raw peanuts in the shell evenly on a cookie sheet. Bake in a preheated 350° oven for 20 minutes. Remove and allow the peanuts to cool. Your home will be scented with a combination of the ballpark and the season with a scent-sational memory in the making to be carried on for generations. Serve the peanuts with original peppermint sticks, like a candy cane. It might sound crazy but the combo is amazing! “Parched” peanuts and peppermint candy is an unexpected heavenly combo, passed down from grandma!

Light Up More Than Pumpkins!

Though it may be a bit too warm and too early to carve a jack-o’-lantern, light up your house and yard with a different kind of glow! Replace your porch lights with orange and or purple light bulbs. Cover your bushes with the same colors in string lights. There’s something magical about lights and these will have you feeling festive in no time!

A Cookie Cutter Solution

By the time you’ve celebrated these autumn-packed festivities, you’ll likely step outside and realize that fall is finally in the air! Whether it is or isn’t, it will feel like autumn with the help of appropriately themed cookie cutters! Use leaves, acorns, pumpkins, and squirrel shapes to cut out sandwiches for school lunchboxes, stencils for cutting uniquely shaped napkins, or festive invitations. Or do the obvious and make cookies to serve with those chilling drinks, fire-lit ghost stories, a twist on s’mores, ahh-mazing movie snacks, or inspiration in feeling the season as you decorate your fall halls!
