How to Make Homemade Lotion

Many body and hand lotions, when commercially produced, may contain harmful chemicals that aren’t good for the skin! Rather than play guessing games, making your own lotion is the best remedy to get natural lotion. If you’re one of those people who are wondering how to make homemade lotions, then you don’t have to look any further. The process is very cheap, fast and pretty easy for you to follow. You can actually use all-natural products and make homemade lotions in the convenience of your own kitchen. Here are the steps for making your own lotion!

Step 1: Before the actual making, the first step you must do is determine what kind of oil best suits your skin. You can choose an oil base that reflects how the lotion will benefit you. For example, coconut oil is great for soft skin while almond oil is perfect for lightweight skin and has a very natural smell. You can also use other oils like regular canola or vegetable oil depending on what you desire. It is advised that you research the effects and implications of using such oils. This will help prevent unwanted side effects or allergic reactions.

Step 2: When you’re done, pour one cup of the oil into a pot or a microwave safe container. Then, add a tablespoon of emulsifying wax. Beeswax is a good, all-natural wax that you can use. Melt these two ingredients together at a low heat and stir well. You also can add a small amount of water to the mixture until it reaches a consistency you like. Just remember that less water will make your lotion richer and thicker.

Step 3: Now, add your choice of fragrances to the lotion base you made. The option you choose when doing this step is based on your personal taste. You can also add color to your homemade lotion using natural or plant-based food coloring. Just add a few drops of color and stop when you reach your desired color. Now, transfer your finished product into a sterilized glass or plastic bottle or jar and use a funnel to get the lotion inside without drips or spills. Lastly, you can make it more creative, fun and appealing by adding different designs to the lotion container. When done, store your homemade lotion in a cool and dark place to help it last longer.

Your skin needs to be properly cared for throughout your life.
