Blog | March 10th, 2023

Those sneaky leprechauns have a lot of tricks up their green sleeves and our job is to catch one and get them talking about how to celebrate their favorite holiday! They know all about pots of gold and how to hold onto them so here’s the unfolding news and tips on how to keep the jingle in your pocket and celebrate St Paddy’s day for free!

Leprechaun Trap

To catch these quick-moving fellows, we need a trap, so here’s how to get busy making yours! Start with a green soda bottle, and add some gold coins to lure him in with the help of a popsicle stick ladder for a tricky boost!

Letters from Leprechauns

If your trap doesn’t contain a live leprechaun, remember, they’re slippery little guys! These free printable letters will help heal the disappointment if you’re not lucky enough to catch one this year.

Lucky Leprechaun Scavenger Hunt

Even if your trap is empty you can still gather some leprechaun belongings on a holiday scavenger hunt! Here is a printable list to get you going!

Bingo! Saint Paddy’s Style!

Here are the free printables for the game! Using Rollo candies for markers will create a pot of gold and a win for everyone.

Clover Hunt

Search for four-leaf clovers, though three leaves will work just fine! Use them for decorating most everything. Clovers (Trifolium species), are identifiable by their trefoil leaves and can be found in yards most anywhere. They are edible from root to blossom, and you can eat them raw, boiled, and sauteed! If you don’t want to eat them, you can feel safe decorating your edibles to make your dishes festive for free!

Green Sherbert Holiday Float!

Quench your thirst and satisfy your sweet tooth the green holiday way!

  • ginger ale
  • lime sherbet
  • whipped cream
  • green sprinkles
  • Airheads rainbow candy

  • Put two scoops of lime sherbert in a clear glass.
  • Add ginger ale slowly until it bubbles at the top.
  • Top with whipped cream, green sprinkles, and a slice of rainbow Airhead candy.

Make a Blarney Stone!

Legend says that kissing a Blarney Stone would give you good luck, while other stories say it will give you the gift of gab, or the ability to talk with eloquence and flattery. If you can’t go to Ireland, make your own version! Simply find a rock, wash it, and dry it. Paint it green and add googly eyes. When it dries, give it a smooch and wait for magic to happen!

For Breakfast, Lucky Charms of course!

The cereal says it all but these free printables will make them magically delicious and stand out special!

Leprechaun Houses

Similar to a Christmas village, make gingerbread or graham cracker houses a St. Patrick’s home for the holidays for the little green guys! Some suggested decor can be spice drops, Mint M&Ms, Skittles, rainbow AirHeads, green frosting, and of course…graham crackers. Here are the directions with photos!

Rainbow Waffles

If cereal isn’t floating your boat, make rainbow waffles that are sure to please! Divide fast and easy Bisquick batter into squeeze bottles. Make each one a different color creating the colors of the rainbow with a natural food coloring. Let your imagination flow as you create your colorful design in the waffle iron…then like magic, you can taste this rainbow complimented with butter and syrup! Hmmm, maybe leprechauns and elves are related!

Green Flower Power

Leaves are green but normally flowers aren’t. Crank up a little magic and turn pale-colored flowers green by adding green food coloring to a vase of water. Cut the stems to have a fresh end, then insert your flower choices into the water. Before you know it you’ll have the perfect St. Patrick’s centerpiece and a lot of wide-eyed wonder as the color appears right before you!

Leprechaun Slime

As we well know, those St Paddy’s leprechauns are slippery little creatures. If you can’t catch ‘em, join ‘em with the slime they leave behind! In a bowl, combine one bottle of Elmer’s CLEAR Washable Glitter Glue, green shamrock glitter, sequins, or whatever you have on hand, and 1/8 – 1/4 cup liquid starch (like Sta flo brand). Then squish, squeeze, and mash it up until you have the perfect consistency for play and possibly another way to trap a leprechaun!
