Blog | March 21st, 2012

It’s about time to start planning your summer vacation. There are plenty of places to go in this big world of ours; there’s a lot more out there than just what is in your backyard. Have you thought about going somewhere internationally this year? You probably think that it won’t fit your budget but that isn’t true! There are many options out there that offer great experiences and wonderful memories without breaking your bank account. We have some travel ideas that will help you with your vacation decision and, best of all, are extremely affordable.

Eastern Europe

I’m sure you think that it is simply too expensive to go to Europe for a vacation. The Euro is expensive compared to the dollar right now so you will probably want to stay away from countries such as France, Germany and Spain. The pound in England isn’t much better. However, if you go to the Eastern parts of Europe you can save a bunch of money and experience the beautiful architectures and cultures that these cities have to offer. Cities such as Prague and Budapest offer many major museums and sites that will electrify you and are among the safest cities that you can visit. They are also excellent choices because of their local currencies. You can easily get around the city for about $30 per person, per day!

Costa Rica

This Central American country is one of the top choices for frugal vacationers and for good reason. It’s a small country that is extremely cheap to get around in and to get to. From some cities, you can get a round trip plane ticket to Costa Rica for $400-$500! Once you get there, the country has a lot of natural beauty including lush forests, blue oceans and warm tropical weather. Finding places to stay and eat will be cheap as well. This is because of the strength of the dollar compared to the colon (the national currency). You should be able to find a place to stay and have a lot of fun for between $20-$30 per person per day.

Peru

For individuals looking for a South American adventure, it is important to find a country that is safe, unique and, most importantly, affordable. One of the best countries for all three of these is Peru. Their currency will allow you to live like a king for a very small amount of money. The country offers a lush environment full of tropical trees, snowy mountains and wildlife that will provide memories that are sure to last a lifetime. Peru is also home to one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu. This 15th Century Incan site was left largely untouched when the Spanish invaded Peru and is situated high atop a mountain ridge. Largely restored, it is a beautiful area and should be seen by everyone at least once in his or her lifetime.

There are many countries around the world where you can have an awesome time and stay within a frugal budget. These are just some suggestions for places to start looking. Remember, when you are making your travel plans, don’t be afraid to think internationally. You never know what you might find within your budget that will open a whole new world to you. Don’t forget your passport!
