How to Keep Cut Avocados from Turning Brown

Like many fruits, avocados can quickly turn brown and slimy when they are cut. The reason behind this is that avocados are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids which makes the fruit sensitive to light, air and heat. When exposed to one of these elements, avocados will break down, causing them to turn brown. To prevent this from happening, here’s a simple solution you could try.

Place the cut avocados in a clean and dry plastic container with a slice of cut onion. Then cover the lid and refrigerate. This can keep cut avocados fresh for up to five days or more because of the sulphuric acid that the onion releases. Don’t worry about the onion smell and taste because it won’t transfer to the avocados. You can now enjoy cut avocados longer and save money by wasting less food!
