Yes, and yes. Grant Thompson, YouTuber and the self-proclaimed "King of Random," actually tries and succeeds at using a pencil to start a fire...but it's probably not as simple as you think.

He shaves half of the pencil off so the graphite is exposed. He then hooks jumper cables up to his car and clamps the other end on the exposed graphite. After a few seconds, the pencil begins to combust.
